Contemporary art fair Sandsown

Last weekend was a fun experience. I exhibited again at the Contemporary art fair, this time at the Sandsdown racecourse in Surrey.

A kind and generous friend lent me their Mazda Bongo camper van so I could use it to stay overnight. My good friend Paul Drury came along to help out and drafted his mum to help too who lives nearby.

It was also my first time Doing a live demonstration, luckily for me it was early so the crowd was low in number which suited me as I’m quiet shy by nature and not the most comfortable when speaking to a group of people.

Thankfully I managed to sell some paintings, including the big one above me in the third pic ;)

It gives you a little boost and justifies your reasons for putting all the effort in. It can be demoralising when the paintings arent selling. Try as I might to think positive thoughts, sometimes a little negativity can creep in so I try to keep this in check and luckily my amazing other half Zia sent me some supportive messages which always help!

During the quiet times I was able to continue with the painting by my stand and have nice chats here and there with fellow artists and people walking by.

All in all it was a great experience and im looking forward to the next one in Windsor 25th-27th November.

Oh and id also like to say a big thankyou to my eco warrior Mum for creating some carry bags for my artwork out of old fabric and other stuff to pad them out!

And last but not least my good friends at my little farm laure and kievor for making the journey up there!

Be well, enjoy the pics.

Lots of love

Aaron Thomson

Hi. I’m Aaron. A self taught artist living in Hove, East Sussex.

I’m Always looking for the beauty in everything. Whether it’s the perfect sunset or a decaying building. It can be found everywhere!

For me the excitement in life comes from the unexpected things you stumble on without trying, the hidden treasures you don’t immediately spot.

Crackles, crooked lines, sweeping coastlines, undulating hills and distorted skylines offer a glimpse into another world, somewhere familiar but new

I love texture and enjoy applying it in layers to the painting surface using a variety of tools. Palette knives, spatulas, brushes and fingers all come into play

at some point.
